Beginning to Slip Bobber Fish

Slip Bobber fishing is a simple and effective method to start most people on the path to angling. Slip Bobber fishing is not the style of fishing that most people see kids doing off the dock. Use this classic technique to fish shallow weed beds to deep rock humps. The actual keys are the way you set up your equipment.

Basic Equipment and Set-Up

Here is a list of the equipment that is needed to assemble a Slip Bobber rod.

-Spinning Reel, usually a 2000 or 2500 series size (Bombing casts are unlikely with a slip bobber)

-Long (7ft+) Medium-light, extra fast Spinning rod (Make sure your rod choice does not have micro eyelets.)

-8 to 10 lb Mono or Braid fishing line (Users choice)

-Bobber Stops

-Slip Bobber

-Assorted Split shot weights or egg sinkers

-Swivel

-8 to 12lb Fluorocarbon Leader material

-Wide gap live-bait hooks or Wide gap jigs in the 1/16 to ¼ oz. size

-Live bait (minnows, leeches, crawlers)
